Japanese couples no longer having sex

Newly released figures from a study conducted by the Family Planning Association show that 37 percent of Japanese couples no longer have sex.
The figure is a significant deterioration from 32 percent in 2004 and 31 percent in 2006.
Boredom with sex and being too tired from work were identified as reasons for the poor rate. The data is consistent with a 2006 study which found that Japanese couples have sex an average of 45 times per year, well below the worldwide average of 103.
Association head Dr Kunio Kitamura said that government incentives to reverse the population decline will be useless unless more couples have sex. To maintain a stable population Japan needs a birth rate of 2.08 - currently it is 1.34.
