Gusakov: there is a year of salmonellosis in Ukraine

“This year sees salmonellosis hyperactivity in the whole Ukraine,” the head of the epidemiological department of the Maryupol city SES Yuri Gusakov told IMC (InterMedia Consulting)

"For example, 45 cases of this disease have been registered only in August of this year, and that is two times more than last year. It is due to the fact that salmonellosis is a cyclic disease. Approximately each 3-4 years there are similar out-breaks. The same is also with other diseases. Last year we were covered by the wave of dysentery, and this year it is not available at all. Therefore I can say with confidence that this year is a year of salmonellosis."

According to Gusakov, another reason of such growth of salmonellosis morbidity is the use in food of raw eggs, their insufficient heat treatment, as well as a breach of cooking technology. There is also a risk factor of wrong cooked and stored meat.

"Fortunately, there are no group diseases in our country, because the infection transmission factors are not centralized. Mainly, everything happens due to non-observance of elementary sanitary rules. In turn, the sanitary service has been carried out complex measures during the whole summer, which provided the inspection of trade objects and production of products, as well as information of population about a possible danger," said Gusakov.
